Mike Coughlin, BS, MS, MBA, CPA, founded ScriptPro in 1994, and serves as chairman, CEO, and founder.
After earning degrees in physics and business from St. Louis University and Ohio State University and completing preliminary research work for Bell Telephone Laboratories, Mike began his career in Palo Alto, Calif. with Hewlett-Packard. There, he served as manufacturing operations manager for HP’s startup microelectronics operations.
A native of Topeka, Kan., he returned to the Midwest in 1973 and entered management consulting with the Kansas City office of Arthur Andersen & Co., then one of the “Big Five” accounting firms. As a specialist in manufacturing systems, he became a manager at the firm and also earned his certified public accountant designation.
In 1976, Mike started MEC Management Company, an accounting, business development, and systems integration practice. In 1994 he founded ScriptPro with the mission of developing the first robotic prescription dispensing system for community and outpatient pharmacies. He continues to lead ScriptPro in pioneering comprehensive hardware and software platforms that prevent medication errors and improve patient care and financial performance in more than 7,000 pharmacies worldwide.
Working with industry leaders, Mike promotes the value of community and ambulatory pharmacy in the health care system. He serves on advisory boards, speaks to industry groups and political leaders, and is frequently quoted in the press on subjects ranging from pharmacy automation to business development.
